Ciné-club Barberousse: Medicine and healthcare in cinema
The Ciné-club “Barberousse . Medicine and Healthacare in the movies” invites you to a screening a Saturday a month at 10:30 am at Nouvel Odeon (6 rue de l’Ecole de Medicine, Paris 6e)
The aim of these screenings is to understand personal and social ordeals a sick person and his relatives have to cope with, as well as the diversity and richness of care relationships.
Waiting for a diagnostic. Being told that one suffers from a serious illness. Being hospitalized. Lliving with a chronic illness or a disability. Getting better. Looking after a sick person and accompanying them. Becoming a doctor or a care taker. Working in a hospital. Many experiences that we can dive ourselves into thanks to some major films (documentary or fictional). Some of them allow doctors, people who work in healthcare, and patients to have a voice, thus reminding us that we are all vulnerable and could eventually become caretakers or patients. Through these movies we can experience the hardships and values of care, as in Barberousse of Akira Kurosawa.
