La Fondation Tara Océan est la première fondation française consacrée à l’Océan reconnue d’utilité publique. Elle porte une double mission : explorer l’Océan pour mieux le comprendre et partager les connaissances scientifiques recueillies pour sensibiliser les citoyens à ses enjeux.
En partenariat avec des laboratoires de recherche d’excellence, elle étudie la biodiversité marine, observe et anticipe les impacts du changement climatique et des pollutions sur l’Océan. Pour développer le sentiment de responsabilité commune, la fondation éduque les jeunes générations, facilite la coopération internationale et mobilise les décideurs politiques.
À bord de sa goélette Tara, elle embarque aussi des artistes du monde entier et leur permet d’exprimer leur relation à l’Océan.
À travers le dessin, la céramique, le carnet de voyage, l’installation, la vidéo ou la photo, l’exposition La Grande expédition explore les enjeux environnementaux, sociétaux et symboliques liés à l’Océan. Toutes les oeuvres exposées dévoilent la richesse et la fragilité du plus vaste écosystème sur Terre.

The Foundation Tara Océan is the first French foundation dedicated to the Ocean to be recognized of public interest. The Foundation aims at exploring the Ocean to have a better understanding of it and share the scientific knowledge collected to increase public awareness.

Through partnerships with some of the most qualified research laboratories, they study marine biodiversity. They observe and predict the impact of climactic change and pollution over the oceans. The foundation strives to educate younger generations, facilitate international cooperation, and mobilize political decision-makers in order to develop a feeling of collective responsibility.

Artists from all over the world also embarked aboard the schooner Tara to explore their relationship to the Ocean, which they translated through drawing, ceramic, travel diaries, contemporary art installations, filmmaking, and photography. The exhibition La Grande Expedition dwells upon the environmental, social, and symbolical concerns in relation to the Ocean. The exhibited pieces all unveil in their own way the fertility and fragility of the widest ecosystem on Earth.
